Mayor Gavin Newsom Announces Local Endorsements
San Francisco, CA — The Newsom for California campaign announced today the endorsements of nearly 40 local elected officials and Democratic party leaders for Mayor Gavin Newsom’s gubernatorial bid.
“I deeply appreciate the support of these community leaders who work hard on the ground each and every day,” said Mayor Newsom. “They are essential to this state, and we’ll continue to work together to bring opportunity and prosperity to California.”

These endorsements come on the heels of those made by former President Clinton and Congressman Bob Filner (San Diego) this week. Former State Senator Sheila Kuehl (Santa Monica), a longtime leader in the effort for universal health care and the rights of the LGBT community, has also endorsed Mayor Gavin Newsom for governor.
In August, San Francisco Treasurer José Cisneros and Assessor-Recorder Phil Ting endorsed Mayor Newsom, as well as Supervisors Michela Alioto-Pier, Carmen Chu, Bevan Dufty, and Sean Elsbernd. Campaign Chair State Senator Alex Padilla made California history as the first Latino President of the League of California Cities and the first Latino and youngest-ever Los Angeles City Council President.
